Maui Ocean Center

For a great aquarium experience without getting wet then you must check out the Maui Ocean Center.  It’s quite a place and it’s worth the time and money to visit.  You may ask why would I pay to go to an aquarium when I can go snorkeling and see the same things for free.   Here at the aquarium, the guides can answer all your questions, point out areas of the island and the times of day where you can see some of these creatures in the wild.

When traveling to a new city or area,  taking an overall guided tour of an area can give you a general idea of what’s there before you head out exploring on your own to specific places highlighted on the tour.  The same is true for going out scuba or snorkeling on Maui.  Hit the ocean center so you know more about what you are looking at and can appreciate it’s beauty and rarity.

You can see sharks, dive with sharks and sleep with sharks.  You won’t find this interaction with sharks in the ocean unless you are a serious night-time scuba diver or you know the spots to go, and hit them at the right time.   To see some sharks have a look into the caves just off the coast at Makena Landing.  You may be able to catch glimpses of them while snorkeling during the day but the best way is to go scuba diving there.
